On 20th and 21st November 2009 the four NZEI NEAG's (National Executive Advisory Group's) met in Wellington. I attended the Principals Council meeting as the AP/DP Network Convenor - the first time this group has been represented on the council this year. There are four meetings per year (one a term) and this one involved a lot of reports on activities to date this year. I think I am coming up to speed on all the different organisations/issues that are covered by NZEI and this group! A steep learning curve!
Following is a list of key topics/reports that were covered over the 2 days - detail to some of the topics can be added....... gradually!
  • Initial Teacher Education - a brief report was given on activities for this sector;
  • Organisational Review / Annual Meeting 2009 - a report on the implications of the 3 change proposals that were adopted at annual meeting in September;
  • TC World Teachers Day Seminar - a report was given about this event;
  • Payroll / NovoPay - a presentation from MoE staff and Talent2 (the company who have the new payroll contract) on how NovoPay will work and the roll out in 2010;
  • NZ Teachers Council - an update on developments on the proposed new regisration framework from NZTC director, Peter Lind;and,
  • Discussion on the NZTC proposals - go to http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz to complete the feedback form if you have time and have not done so, by Friday (November 27th!)
  • Behaviour Plan (Taumata Whanoanga) - an outline of the 2010-2014 Positive Behaviour for Learning Action Plan and some information on how this will be implemented;
  • NZEI National Standards Forum - a report on the forum which met the perious day (19th November) - look out for information on the 'outcomes' of this meeting which will be circulated to schools - the version that has not been given through the media!;
  • And a range of sessions on: Principals Professional matters, Career Pathways for Principals, school property issues, the work of the Principal Support Officers in the Regional Offices.
Let me know if you have questions about any of the topics noted, and I'll try and address them. Lots of listening for this meeting, but I hope to be a more active participant next year. Sara.
